Do you want to wear your horns and antlers on your head? Well do I have the solution for you!
Headband kits
I offer two types of kits:
Regular Headband Kit
Detachable Headband Kit
Regular Headband Kit
A permanent method that glues the horns or antlers to a headband.
The kit consists of:
1 plastic headband
2 flathead screws.
The Regular Headband Kit requires an awl or screwdriver to make a hole in the foam inside the horn or antler, and it requires a quick setting glue like hot glue. I myself prefer to use hot glue for this method.
The kit used to contain a headband sticker to place over the screw heads, but I can longer get hold of them, so please be aware that they are no longer available even if they are shown in the pictures.
Instructions:
1) Trim the base of the horns/antlers, make sure they will fit in the correct angle when on the headband. Also decide which composition you want the horns in now and in the case of several hole placements pick the one you prefer.
2) Take the headband and place a screw in each hole.
3) Make a hole in the foam in the base of the horn with an awl or screwdriver and make it deep enough for the screw to fit.
4) Make sure the hot glue is warm enough(if using hot glue) and then fill the hole with hot glue or other strong quick setting glue like 2-part epoxy glue. Also place some around the hole to attach better to the headband.
5) Stick the horn onto the screw by guiding the screw into the hole. Make sure the horn base goes all the way down to the headband. Press on the screw on the inside of the headband for a better grip, but do be aware that the screw gets hot from the hot glue so use caution. Hold it in place until the glue cools down and hardens.
6) If necessary, add more glue around the base to better bond with the headband.
7) Repeat steps with other horn.
Detachable Headband Kit
A method that allows you to screw the horns or antlers onto a headband or other type of surface.
This method is quite useful for travel, storage and for when you wear the horns and antlers with a wig or hood.
The kit consists of:
1 plastic headband
2 threaded insert screws
2 flathead screws.
You will need an awl or screwdriver to make a hole in the foam inside the horn or antler and a strong glue. I recommend using a 2-part epoxy glue with around 5min work time.
Instructions:
1) First find out where you want to place screws. This is mostly relevant for the larger horns which has a large base, on smaller horns or antlers there is usually only one good location.
Mark the location and then either use a drill to make a hole or use an awl or screwdriver. Make sure the hole is wide and deep enough to fit the thread.
2) I also recommend removing a bit of the foam on the flat of the base so that the horn/antler can lay flush against your headband when the thread is installed. Use a sharp knife for this but please use caution. You don't have to remove much, 1-2mm is enough.
3) Mix your glue and coat the outside of the tube of the thread. Make sure you do not get any glues inside it or else your screw might not fit anymore. It's also very hard to clean.
4) Stick the thread into the hole you made and make sure it goes all the way down and the little spikes sticks into the foam. Pushing the base of the horn/antler flat against a hard surface helps pushing it in while the glue hardens.
5) When the glue has hardened you can add more glue around the thread base to better bond it with the foam.
6) When the glue has hardened insert the screw and make sure it fits well. If there is resistance some glue might have gotten inside the thread tube but usually screwing the screw in and out a few times helps against removing the excess glue.
